Understandably, I am not so upset as to not include some of the info I had been writing although I am sure it will not be as well said.

Choosing a strain. There are many seed companies to choose from and I personally recommend Greenhouse seed Co., Sensi Seed Co., Flying Dutchmen, Dutch Passion, and Mandala seeds. I have had very good experiences with White Widow from Greenhouse Seed Co.. It has a high yeild, and is fairly easy to grow. The taste is fantastic. I would not recommend it to the extra catious grower due to the fact that it can stink up a baseball field, and there are strains which are not as stinky.

Reputable seed companies will not send their seeds to the United States; because of the fascist-like legal issues surrounding growing this plant that has been around since long before the constitution, or the bible. If you are ordering seeds in the U.S. and they arrive, they are probably from your federal law enforcement officer, please do be carefull. Otherwise, it is always good to check local regulations before ordering seeds.

When choosing a strain it is important to look at the ease of grow, yeild, resiliancy to pests, hight of stretch in flowering, taste, smell, and length of flowering.

Many strains meant for indoor use have been found to grow fantastic bud outdoors. Good cultivation practices, a proper latitude, and a positive outlook are all necassary, the latter being of prime importance as I will explain in later texts.


There are truebreeding strains such as Northern Lights and Original Haze. These strains are a little like purebred dogs in that they will have offspring that are very similar to each other, but they will also be subject to various genetic anomolies such as hip dysplasias in large purebred dogs. In terms of marijuana truebred strains, this means they will be very susceptible to enviromental influences and hence are not as easy to take care of as their counterparts the F1 strain.

F1 strain, when crossing two purebred strains the offspring develop what is known as hybrid vigor, this is extreme strength in the field of growth and resilience to negative enviromental influences such as pests and cultivation abnormalities (overwatering, low light etc.). This hybrid vigor is due to genetic recombination, meaning that genetic traits from both plants combine allowing for a decrease in negative genetic characteristics which are ussually of the recessive gene type (not expressed unless combined with the same gene). This tends to increase resiliancy. F1 strains are ussually best for the novice grower.

Now one must decide whether they would like to cultivate in soil or if they would like to use a hydroponic system.

Soil and pots can be bought almost anywhere.

Each growing technique has it pluses and minuses.

Hydro
+ fast growth, high yeild
- low buffering capacity against dehydration, difficulties with bio-grow, possible difference in taste depending on nutrients used

Soil
+ high buffering capacity for cultivation abnormalities, smooth taste especially when grown with bio-products
- lower yields, slower growth

One must decide according to available supplies and ones personal reasons for growing.

I personally prefer soil due to its' extremely delicious taste. I agree it is possibly a matter of opinion whether or not soil growing actually provides for a better tasting plant, but my opinion is that yes it does.

For the inexperienced grower, soil is more beneficial because the enviroment does not have to be so closely attuned to the plant. Soil permits the grower to make small mistakes without them being very evident in the final product.

With hydroponic growing, very simple mistakes can turn in to serious catastrophes. Of course, one can not argue the value of getting the most bud for the amount of electricity used, especially when growing in countries which pay close attention to customer energy consumption.

Another important decision involves the choice of growing directly from seed or choosing to use clones also known as micropropagation (kool word, huh? ). When growing from seed, it is important to remember that each plant will be a little different and this can be problematic when using certain hydroponic methods for growing such as Ebb & Flood; where plants can not be moved around so any large plants may come too close to the lighting. If growing in soil, plants can be moved around and so this is not so much of a problem. Seeds, in my experience, will ussualy provide for a stronger grow, but this may be dependant on the quality of clones used.

A seed will have an original genetic packet, as opposed to the clone which has definately experienced some stress in its' lifetime, if simply due to the cloning process alone.

Making ones own clones can be a long time endevour, it ussually takes minimally one year to properly select a mother for micropropagation. One suggestion is to begin with a seed crop from which one takes clones during the growth period. These clones can be propagated until the seed crop has gone through flowering, then ones favorite plant can be grown as a single crop (more on how to make clones later).

Ideally, it is best to buy clones from an extremely experienced grower, since cultural practices will have an affect on the genetic make - up of the clone. This way one does not have to put up with the hassle of selection, nor do they have to have an OCD- like growroom. Unfortunatly, most extremely experienced growers do not have large numbers of acquaintances and hence us knowing one is unlikely.

Clones are good to use when one wants to grow short crops which are easy to take care of because they all require the same treatment.
